WHAT’S HAPPENING IN OUR AREA

The Campbell County High School Band Boosters are having a catfish dinner and auction on Friday, March 5th at the high school. Dinner will be 4:30pm to 6:30pm and tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for kids under 5 years of age. Tickets can be purchased at the door and carry-out orders are available. The auction begins at 6:00pm. All proceeds go to support the CCHS band program.

Medic Regional Blood Center needs your help! We are critically low on ALL blood types at this time. Please stop by your local blood drive and help save a life!

Meanwhile, Medic Regional Blood Center teamed with Second Harvest Food Bank in January for a month long “Double Your Good Deed” promotion. They gave donors the option of skipping a t-shirt and donating nine meals to Second Harvest instead.(One blood donation equals nine meals) Medic collected 4,276 donation slips from donors totaling 36,810 meals for the hungry in East Tennessee! Thank you for all you did to help make this promotion a huge success and thank you for your support of Medic Regional Blood Center!

Six (6) Friday evening Lenten Fish Fries will be open to the public and offered by Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church as a fund raiser at 1142 East Elm Street in LaFollette starting February 19th and running through Friday, March 26th. The fried or blackened catfish dinners, along with French fries or rice, creamy coleslaw, hushpuppies and beverage are offered for $10.00 for adults between 5 PM and 8 PM. Children’s portions and desserts are also available. Take Hwy 63 Northeast through LaFollette and look for Elm St and the church, off of the road to the right, just before you get to the LaFollette post office.

You can make $11.75 per hour working for the U.S. Census Bureau. You can work up to 40 hours per week in a temporary, part-time job with flexible hours and mileage reimbursement (.55 per mile). Applicants must apply by December 31st. If you are interested, call 1-866-861-2010.

Ginny’s Pet Rescue, Inc., a 501 c 3 organization, needs you to provide a home for abandoned puppies, cat and kittens that otherwise may face euthanization. They also need monetary donations towards their goal of saving, spaying and neutering Campbell County animals. Contact Virginia 423-327-4954 or Jay 423-562-9408 for information if you can help.

The Big Valley Barn in Clinton holds “Open Jam Night” every Tuesday night from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. No charge. It is located at 901 Mountain Road in Clinton. Call 865-805-1723 for more information.

The Senior Citizens Center in LaFollette will provide seniors 60 and older, if qualified, a free daily lunch Monday through Friday paid for through a Food Lion Grant. Transportation is provided to and from the Center if needed. Call 562-6672 for more information. The Center will also be hosting a health fair on March 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Narcotics Anonymous meets on Wednesday and Sunday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 8 p.m. at 2119 Jacksboro Pike, LaFollette in the Campbell County Unity Association building.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets at the Jellico United Methodist Church, 204 Fifth Street, Jellico, on Mondays at 7 p.m.

Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays each evening at 8 p.m. as well as Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at 2119 Jacksboro Pike, LaFollette in the Campbell County Unity Association building. Alcoholics Anonymous also has a hotline, 1-800-905-8666.

Al- Anon for the families of the alcoholic meets Tuesdays at 8 p.m. The meetings will take place at 2119 Jacksboro Pike, LaFollette in the Campbell County Unity Association building.
